What is your current position at your brewery, and how did you get started in the craft brewing industry?

I am the GM of Production. I actually came from a wine background, but fell in love with brewing when I had my first craft beer lightbulb moment!

Has Covid-19 and the lockdown had an impact on your brewery? If so, what impact and how have you responded?

Well for us it was both positive and negative. The negatives were felt by pretty much everyone in the liquor industry and had and still have long lasting repercussions on us all. On the flip side, our non alcoholic beer, Hero, absolutely exploded. We grew 15 fold in volumes. Not only did this keep the business side of things ticking but it did an unimaginable amount towards our brand equity.

What’s new at your brewery?

We’ve added a new lemon flavoured Hero to our non-alcholic range.

What’s the best part of being a part of the South African craft brewing community?

The fast evolution and progression of the industry. Also, the camaraderie between the brewers.

Name your favourite food and beer pairing.

IPA and a cheeseburger

What’s your biggest accomplishment unrelated to your job?

I used to be able to fit my body through the head of a tennis racket.

What’s your favourite beer from another brewery?

There are so many. Maybe Pliny the Elder from Russian River? It was a light bulb moment!

What do you like to do in your time away from the brewery?

I think about having more free time or I mountain bike.

What’s the most memorable travel destination at which you’ve had a chance to sample the local beer?

Burlington for Foam Brewers – 1 year birthday party
