What is your current position at your brewery, and how did you get started in the craft brewing industry?

I am the founder and obviously brewmaster. I decided to brew my own beer after being exposed to the amazing range and variety of beer during a visit to Europe and the UK. I was already making cider on our apple farm and decided to give a commercial brewery a go.

What’s new at your brewery?

We tried our hand at barrel ageing with a batch of Stout (which we thought was a success). And we brewed a Brut IPA which we’re in love with!

What’s the best part of being a part of the South African craft brewing community?

The camaraderie and support from other brewers. And of course being inspired with their new releases.

Name your favourite food and beer pairing.

Mussels and wit bier.

What’s your biggest accomplishment unrelated to your job?

I ran my own software company for 15 years, and farmed apples and cherries for 17 years.

What’s your favourite beer from another brewery?

American Pale Ale from THAT Brewing Company and the Karma Citra from Frontier Beer Co.

What do you like to do in your time away from the brewery?

Mountain biking, hiking and traveling.

What’s the most memorable travel destination at which you’ve had a chance to sample the local beer?

The brewpubs in London were inspirational.
