On Saturday, 27 July 2019, the 5th annual Woodstock Winter Beer Festival took place at the Castle of Good Hope.
The festival, organised by Drifters Brewing Company and events company Savage and Strong, has grown steadily over the past few years, with this year’s event bringing together 20 breweries from all over Cape Town and the Western Cape.
Festival goers got to try out a wide range of once-off brews and craft beers while enjoying the sunny, warmer weather and a great DJ line-up on the Castle lawns.
Some of the once-off brews on offer on the day included: a Turkish delight stout, a strawberry milkshake IPA, a peppermint porter and a winter fruit ale.
The full list of once-off brews can be found here.
This year, owner of the Brewmistress beer blog, Lucy Corne partnered with a 6 breweries to produce a series of karaoke collaborations that suited the theme of the once-off brews they were producing for the festival. The series of collaborations can be found here.
BASA CEO, Sanele Gaqa attended the festival and tried out a few of the once-off brews and craft beers on offer.
He said: The Woodstock Winter Beer Festival showcases what the growing craft beer community has to offer. There is no doubt that this sector is starting to brew consistent innovative, quality beer, that is helping to differentiate South African beer and is leaving consumers, who enjoy drinking beer responsibly, spoiled for choice. The BASA is keen to support the festival next year, so that it grows even bigger and showcases even more brewers.”
Some other beer festivals coming up include:
- CapeGate Craft Beer Festival – 30 August to 31 August 2019
- The Cape Town Festival of Beer – 29th November to 1 December 2019
